As parents you try to do the best you can to watch out for your kids. You ask where they are going and who they are going with. On occasion you call just to double check. You make sure there are responsible adults around to supervise them. Many of you spend hours attending games, performances, and conferences. Most of you take advantage of online tools that help you track your child’s progress in classes.
And yet for all your vigilance, you may be in the dark about what your child does on their laptop. Do you know where they go? Who they chat with? How they spend their time online? If you are unsure about the answers to these questions then this post is for you.
Previous posts have dealt with the management of the laptop in your home. It’s a good idea to set up useage times and zones within your home. It’s also a good idea to know how to take a look at what your child does online and what images and movies have been saved for future viewing.
The attached pdf file helps parents do just that. This handout was used at the Nov. 3 parent training and should be easy for parents to follow. Especially if you ask your child to help you! Give it a try- if you have questions that your child can’t answer, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’ll get back to you quickly.
